  • Liam Broady and Scott Quigg training session

So Scott Quigg is now roughly 6 weeks away from the fight of his life against Rendall Munroe for the WBA Interim World Title. Just a few days earlier than that Liam Broady will be competing in the French Open at Roland Garros. I decided to get them together for training, so I could see how they compared to one another, but more importantly, so they could see!!

To say that it was a tough training session would be the understatement of the century. Liam and Scott have met on quite a few occasions previously, and as both are real nice lads they get on great. 90 minutes of pure hell was achieved from both of the lads, with neither one of them giving an inch to the other and it truly was amazing to watch.

Obviously nobody can tell what the results are going to be like in the future but there is one thing for sure, come the day of the competition, and the day of the fight, these guys will be fit and ready.

Scott and Liam are both following the Breeding Warriors training philosophy that I have designed and I expect them to continue going from strength to strength.

I will be in Paris alongside Liam when he competes at Roland Garros before flying home for the weigh in and fight of Quigg Vs Munroe. Unfortunately I can’t release the details of exactly what training and nutrition we are doing but I will say, no stone is being left unturned.

Keep checking back for more info on their progress.

  • ARE YOU A SHEEP?

Fitness crazes and trends always move in cycles.

When I first starting working in the fitness industry Spin classes and Step class were all the rage. Even earlier than that Aerobics was the big thing. Then the emergence of Body Training Systems dominated the fitness world. I was trained in Body Combat 3 by Dan Cohen personally, and Body Pump 8 so that will give you an idea of how long ago that was!! More recently Zumba and Bokwa are the latest classes to catch the attention.

Most of those classes are more often than not free as part of your gym membership. But what about the ones you have to pay for? Which brings me onto the latest trend that every single fitness pro seems to be jumping on the bandwagon of……..THE BOOTCAMP!!

It’s fair to say that this is a little bit of a bug bear of mine, with most of these Bootcamps nothing more than a circuit class that you have to pay for! So what makes your Bootcamp any different or better than the next one? What is your USP?

If the answer is ‘YOU’ then this is where many fitness pro’s run into trouble. What happens when you are ill or want to take a holiday? Your business runs into problems.

In order to make your Bootcamp a success you need to ensure you have the following:-

    1. A USP
    2. A system that can be taught whether you are the teacher or not!
    3. Measurable progression.
    4. Availability to all levels.
    5. Something fun.
    6. Something different to your competitors!

    Till next time.

  • THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF PROFESSIONAL SPORT

Training pro athletes of any king often brings about many highs and occasionally a few lows.

Last sat night it’s fair to say wasn’t one of the better nights for Hatton Promotions. Defeats to both Anthony Crolla and Matty Askin who are both fighters we believe have very bright futures ahead of them made it not an enjoyable night for us.  Whether we win or lose one thing is certain is that we always de brief what went well and not so well in the lead up to the fight.  Both fighters will now have a well earned rest before coming back stronger, i’m sure of that.

There is however no rest for the wicked and up next is Scott Quigg defending his British Title against Rendall Munroe and Ronnie Heffron also in action.  I’m afraid I can’t give too much away on their progress at present other than training is going great and both guys are getting stronger with each fight.  Both of the guys are facing extremely tough opponents but I firmly believe both Scott and Ronnie are destined for big things.

Lastly Liam Broady is busy competing in tournaments in Bournemouth, Edinburgh and Newcastle and I will keep you posted on his progress.

    Take it easy!

  • Reading Lists for Personal Trainers

I’m often getting asked for advice on how to create a successful Personal Training business. So here is the first little nugget of my advice!

    READ!

    EVERY DAY!

The day you think you know it all and no longer have to learn is the day you may as well resign as a trainer and look for another career.

For any trainer coming onto my mentorship there are a number of books which have to be read and are non negotiable:-

    Training

Essentials of Strength and Conditioning (Baechle and Earle)
Periodization Training for Sports (Tudor Bompa)

    Nutrition

    The Paleo Diet (Loren Cordain)
The Paleo Diet for Athletes (Loren Cordain)
    New Evolution Diet (Arthur Devany)

    Business (Most Important!)

Getting everything you can (Jay Abraham)
4 Hour Working Week (Tim Ferris)
I Can Make You Rich (Paul Mckenna)
Think Like A Winner (Yehuda Shinar)
Think and Grow Rich (Napolean Hill)
